The Use of Technology in Second  Language Education      The article I chose to review is about the use of technology in second-language education. I found it to be very insightful in the realm of how the lack of technological resources can affect individuals learning second language learners. Second language learners (L2s)  are people acquiring a second language and are non-native speakers of that language. They are in the acquisition process of learning a new language. It is often a long and daunting process as I can speak from experience as a bilingual educator. I see firsthand as my students go through a journey as they learn English as a second language. It is definitely no easy task teaching them a new language and guiding them in transitioning from their native language, which is Spanish for my students. I can relate to this article in the way that second language acquisition must be thought of as a process that teachers need to assure they are sup...

The Digital Divide Within the Context of Language :Article 1 Analysis ED- 6376

Image
The Digital Divide Within the Context of Language      The first article I chose to review is about the digital divide and how language is a barrier that English language learners must cross. It leads to inequality within technology and the digital world especially when it comes to their education. As I wrote my article analysis, I connected with the author's point of view. I feel the article made several valid points as to how ELLs (English Language Learners) are not provided many times with the same digital resources and technologies as English speakers.       As a bilingual teacher myself who teaches all subject areas in English and Spanish, this topic and article really hits home and resonates with me. It is something that my students and I deal with in real-world situations. We must translate a lot of content for our students to comprehend it. I, along with many other teachers, find ourselves having to create our own resources in our studen...

Topic: The Digital Divide Digital Inequality for English Language Learners in K-12 Education:  How the lack of resources, technologies, and access affect ELLs The Digital Divide      It is apparent that our modern-day society is technology driven in many ways. A wide range of factors in our lives rely on some form of technology. It is only natural that this has led to the strong presence of educational technology in schools. Technology access varies from school to school and person to person depending on accessibility. Unfortunately, not all people are created equal regarding digital access to different forms of technology, which creates a divide caused by inequality. But, before one examines the notion of a digital divide, we must first ask ourselves what is a digital divide. A digital divide is created when people from various demographics such as socioeconomic status, race, and educational achievements, lead to a significant separation between people's technolog...

The Age of Digital Citizenship - ED 6376

The Age of Digital Citizenship  When defining digital citizenship, it is the responsible use of technology by users in different digital environments. With current society being technology-driven, digital citizenship has now become part of everyday life. As stated in the Research and insights behind the Common Sense K–12 Digital Citizenship Curriculum, Digital and social technologies have become increasingly pervasive and are now arguably indispensable tools for navigating our world. Today's young people lead profoundly connected and networked lives (James, Weinstein, Mendoza 2019). Users must be knowledgeable about how they use technology and what can happen as resulting implications. There is a whole other digital world out there where people are active citizens within it. Technology is used daily in our modern-day society, anywhere from smartphones, computers, tablets, smart televisions, and many more.  Just like one is expected to be a good citizen in their ac...

"If a school adopts a culture of innovation, then deeper learning is a possibility, plain and simple. That kind of change starts at the top and moves throughout the rest  of the school systematically, eventually contributing to a mindset that is based on challenging students to take the initiative with how deep they go into learning a specific area of interest" (Educase, 2019).          With the rise of technology within educational systems, there are many more advancements still yet to come. The future of technology within schools is reported to continue to be a very promising implementation for students' educational journeys. Technology provides the means for integrating engaging lessons that immerse students in different approaches to learning as opposed to traditional education. New learning models, emerging technologies, and educational innovations have captivated students and shown to be more effective in their learning. Like all new things, one ...
