The Digital Divide Within the Context of Language :Article 1 Analysis ED- 6376

The Digital Divide Within the Context of Language

The first article I chose to review is about the digital divide and how language is a barrier that English language learners must cross. It leads to inequality within technology and the digital world especially when it comes to their education. As I wrote my article analysis, I connected with the author's point of view. I feel the article made several valid points as to how ELLs (English Language Learners) are not provided many times with the same digital resources and technologies as English speakers.

As a bilingual teacher myself who teaches all subject areas in English and Spanish, this topic and article really hits home and resonates with me. It is something that my students and I deal with in real-world situations. We must translate a lot of content for our students to comprehend it. I, along with many other teachers, find ourselves having to create our own resources in our student's native language due to the lack of availability and access. Especially digital resources are especially hard to find for certain lessons we want to incorporate, so this makes it difficult to meet our student's needs. Even programs I use in my instruction such as Kahoot or Quizlet, are hard to find in Spanish. So this leaves me and my students feeling like they do not always have the same opportunities and resources as my English speakers. What I want is an equal opportunity and education for all despite their language, not having to cross hurdles to just try to make sense of it.

As I conducted my research on this topic, I did find it difficult to find many articles on this specific topic. There are many in general about the digital divide, but not as many about focusing on how language in our digital world impacts the digital divide. This leads me to conclude that there must be more research done on this topic for the benefit of English language learners. I am interested in looking at different possible solutions to address these issues. I am curious to find real-world circumstances of students and teachers, in particular, overcoming this barrier with the use of technology and its resources.

The following is my Article 1 Analysis :)
